Theme Nights The 80s Cruise

80's cruise

The next 80s Cruise takes place March 5 to 12, 2022, as an all-inclusive sailing on Mariner of the Seas. Bands announced so far include Morris Day & The Time, The Human League, 38 Special, Berlin, ABC and more. Go to The80scruise.com and check out the 80's Cruise Lineup (Booking opens March 12th) for more information. Celebrating their 40th Anniversary in 2022 with the ‘History Repeating Anthology’ and World Tour, the journey was cut short by Mike Peters’ Pneumonia and Leukemia relapse. Undaunted, Peters led the band back into the studio, resulting in ‘Forwards,’ entering the UK Album Rock Chart at #4 and the Billboard Independent Album Chart at #21. Colin Hay and Greg Ham responded to demand and toured many parts of the world as Men At Work from 1996 into the 2000’s.

The Ultimate 80s Party

Founding member Colin Hay has developed a solo career over the last 35years, writing, recording, and touring extensively throughout the world as a solo artist. The band went on to become a globally successful Grammy winning, multi-platinum selling act, during the early 80’s. The original band, however, came apart relatively quickly and had disintegrated by 1985. Celebrity Cruises’ Millennium Class ships offer the finest combination of luxury accommodations, excellent service & first-class venues for our music performances and shows. If you don't like profanity, then The 80s Cruise is probably not your bag. There's a certain childish delight in being able to curse at will.

In 1991, the original members bid farewell, sparking controversy in 2004 with The Poppy Fields ‘fake band’ subterfuge. The millennium saw their return with ’45 RPM,’ bringing their electro-acoustic rock sound back into the UK top 40. In 2005, lead singer Mike Peters’ cancer diagnosis led to selective shows during treatment. Undeterred, The Alarm continued with albums like ‘Under Attack’ and founded the Love Hope Strength charity. Has made a name for herself as one of the most talented musical icons over the decades. With a fearless nature and a passion for sharing her gifts with others, Sheila truly follows the beat of her own drum.

Ready to Party?

Bassist Rudy Sarzo, a founding member of Metal Health, has rejoined Quiet Riot after almost two decades. In honor of Frankie Banali’s wishes, and with the Banali estate’s support, Quiet Riot continues its historic journey in 2022. The lineup includes guitarist Alex Grossi, vocalist Jizzy Pearl, and Type O Negative drummer Johnny Kelly. Quiet Riot, known as the first heavy metal band, to top the pop chart, gained fame with their 1983 album Metal Health. The band’s story began in 1980, led by Kevin DuBrow, and they achieved massive success with hits like “Cum on Feel the Noize.” Metal Health sold over 10 million copies worldwide. Despite lineup changes over the years, Quiet Riot persisted, and after Banali’s passing in 2020, they are excited to welcome back Rudy Sarzo and look forward to touring and recording into 2022 and beyond.

Christopher Cross

After a break from music to get married, have children and re-discover a love for gardening, Kim returned to playing live in 2001 with various festivals and tours including Australia in 2003 before signing to EMI in Germany in 2006 and releasing the Never Say Never album. After several chart successes with the singles from the album, Kim and her band took to the road, performing over 50 shows in 2007 including two tours and various festivals in 2008. Formed in Wales in 1981, The Alarm gained acclaim with their debut single ‘Unsafe Building,’ characterized by a vibrant mix of acoustic guitars and Mike Peters’ fervent vocals. Praised by U2’s Bono as “The second greatest rock and roll band in the world,” they amassed 17 Top 50 UK singles and over 6 million album sales globally.

About the Ship

Their breakthrough in the USA with ‘The Stand’ and ‘Sixty Eight Guns’ led to the iconic ‘Spirit of ’86 Concert,’ broadcast on MTV. The 80s Cruise is ecstatic to welcome Mark Goodman on deck as one of our celebrity hosts. Additionally, recent forays into the music supervision business have had him orchestrating soundtracks for film and television, including Touchstone/ABC’s hit series, Desperate Housewives.

DJ Christopher J.

Perhaps Bruce’s most notable work “Smithers-Jones”, the story of the city executive who soon finds he has been chewed up & spat out, is just as pertinent today as it was in 1979 when he wrote it for the Setting Sons LP. A timeless artist and hip hop legend, Kurtis blazed the trail for early hip hop artists and continues to carry the torch for hip hop music in new arenas. Squeeze disbanded in 1999 and reunited in 2007, releasing three new albums since then (2010’s Spot the Difference, 2015’s Cradle to the Grave and 2017’s The Knowledge,) as well as various solo projects from both Chris and Glenn. Caribbean charm shines in the Bahamian capital, where you’re never more than a few steps away from rhythmic percussions, appetizing flavors, white-sand beaches, and some of the clearest waters in the world. This picture-perfect paradise was once a pirate’s haven – and you can explore its colorful past of buccaneers, blockade-runners and bootleggers along historical streets and at the three colonial fortresses that line the shores.

(For those who need a break, the Solarium pool is a refuge, as is your cabin). Facing more challenges, including Jules Peters’ battle with Breast Cancer, the band released ‘Equals’ (2018) and ‘Sigma’ (2019), both topping the UK Rock charts. In 2020, during lockdown, they hosted ‘The Big Night In,’ attracting over 500,000 viewers. The critically acclaimed ‘OMEGA’ (2021) entered the Top 10 of the UK Rock Music chart.

There's no formal night, dress code or assigned dining (most people seem pretty happy grabbing slices from the buffet). The focus on music, theme nights and fun '80s events makes spots that are usually happening on a regular Celebrity cruise, such as the specialty dining venues and casinos, dead zones. Just as he hooked audiences in the 80s as one of MTV’s original VJs (video jockey), Alan Hunter is sure to captivate guests of The 80s Cruise from behind the mic on the highly anticipated voyage at sea. Since leaving MTV in 1987, our cruise emcee dabbled in independent film for several years, earning an Academy Award nomination in 2003 for producing the short film Johnny Flynton, along with features Dreamland, Best Worst Movie and Lifted. On The 80s Cruise, you won’t just see your favorite 80s musicians and icons perform on stage, you will also interact with them during our radical series of Excellent Events. Think star-studded game shows, tasting and cooking demos led by artists, interview and panel discussions, vow renewal and more.

The 80s Cruise beckons devotees of this most radical decade to break out the big hair, legwarmers and boom boxes for the ultimate celebration of 80s music and culture on an All-Inclusive 7-day cruise. In 1985, Andy Bell responded to a newspaper ad by Vince Clarke, forming the iconic synth-pop band Erasure. Their debut album, Wonderland, faced initial struggles, but their second album, Circus, became a platinum hit with chart-topping singles. The Innocents in 1988 solidified their icon status, followed by a series of number one albums and hits. Erasure’s contributions to AIDS awareness became significant, and Andy Bell’s openness about being gay and later revealing his HIV+ status added substance to their art. Despite Erasure’s ongoing success, Andy Bell explored solo projects, releasing Electric Blue in 2005 and Non-Stop in 2010.

If you’re looking for a more hands-on maritime adventure, look no further. Cruise to Nassau and swim with stingrays, dive with dolphins, or spot colorful coral on a glass-bottom boat. And just across the bridge is beautiful Paradise Island, home to world-famous luxury hotels and resorts. Spend the day at the famous Atlantis and splash your way through its expansive water park, grab a piña colada at the Marina Village, and spot the hammerhead sharks in Predator Lagoon.

And if you’re more in the mood to unwind, set your sights on the beautiful shores of Isla Verde or El Condado. Mealtime is also an adventure, with so many delicious options to try — from mofongo and pastelon to chillo frito and alcapurrias. Pair every bite with a piña colada — Puerto Rico’s national drink.
